Ruth Barnwell Tallant passed at home on 09/11/2017. She was born in Florence, South Carolina. She was the captain of both the tennis and basketball teams at Duke University and graduated with a BS in Math. She was married to Kyle Tallant for 52 years (she always joked that she married him for his canoe). Having first met at Summer camp , over many years together they shared a fond love for the outdoors and fishing. Ruth and Kyle were the first residents of "Original Carrollwood". Widowed she remained in the same house on the lake since 1959 where she raised her four children and admired her view of her beloved Lake Carroll.

She loved playing tennis and played almost every day up to the age of 93. Our Mom will always be remembered by us for many things: Home baked bread, fish roe and grits for breakfast, best scallop shucker in Florida, picking blue crabs at the kitchen table, homemade pies, fried chicken, smoked mullet spread, fresh shrimp and oyster cocktails, riding her moped through Carrollwood with her best friend Peggy in tow as they headed to the local tennis courts, ducks for pets, mackerel almandine, homemade shirts always from the same pattern, fresh squeezed orange juice, ambrosia, fresh key limes and avocados from the yard and her "Sock It To Me" cake. She loved her hometown Tampa Bay Rays and never missed their games on television.

Ruth is survived by her 4 children, Kyle, Sally and Julia who still reside in Tampa and Marcia who resides in Casper, Wyoming. Four grandchildren Jeremy, Kelsey, Natalie and Kyle and 5 great grandchildren Payton, Allie, Cora, Tally, and Sawyer.

Services for her celebration of life will be held at the Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry, on October 14, 2017, from 2pm to 4pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Red Cross.

Arrangements under the direction of Gonzalez Funeral Home, Tampa, FL.
